Hi! My name is Allen D. Atkinson. I was born in Ocilla, Georgia in 1954.
My father served for 20 years in the U. S. Navy,
and I lived in Japan and California as a a child before moving back to Georgia in 1967. I have worked in the construction industry since
graduating from high school in 1972, which has allowed me to travel to various regions of the United States. I moved back to Middle Georgia
in 1992, and recently fulfilled a life-long dream by graduating from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia in 1997. I am currently living in
the Truckee Meadows of Northern Nevada, where I am employed as a remodeling and finish carpenter. I am divorced, and have a 23-year-old son.
I enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities, such as scuba diving, camping, hiking, and white water rafting, and I love browsing through libraries,
old book stores, antique shops, flea markets, graveyards, and such. I am also a big fan of the blues, and I'm finally learning how to play the guitar.
I have always been interested in American history, but didn't feel a personal link until a cousin showed me the grave
of my great-great-grandfather, Nicholas Faulkner Atkinson, and told me that he had fought
in the Civil War. Finding out I was a descendant of a Confederate veteran opened up a world of discovery for me that I still find fascinating and challenging
over twenty years later. This information also sparked an interest in my ancestry, and genealogy is one of my favorite hobbies. Thanks, Mae!
